This wasn’t your usual 2008 Ducks win. It didn’t feel like the high flying, high scoring, finesse affair we’re all used to. No, this win felt more like a grudge match. One which the Ducks had to grind it out for a win.

With the win against Oklahoma State, the Pac-10 now stand at 3-0 in bowl competition.

I don’t have much time for a wrtie-up, so here’s a link to a story from the Sporting News.

arizonaArizona head coach Mike Stoops is set to be given a three year contract extension. His previous contract was set to expire in 2010. Stoops and the Wildcats are coming of their first bowl appearance and win since 1998.

oregonHighly rated high school quarterback Tajh Boyd (6′ 1″, 210 lbs.) has Ohio St. and Oregon as his top two colleges of choice. Oregon? Don’t they have enough quarterbacks? And, in case you’re unaware, Boyd has had knee troubles—is Oregon the place to be for him with knee troubles?

uscUSC running back C.J. Gable may leave for the NFL at season’s end. Gable says he’s still considering his options and will give it more thought once the Rose Bowl is over and done with.

washingtonWe all know the 2008 Washington Husky football team was bad, but, just in case you missed it, there’s a Web site dedicated to the accomplishments (or lack thereof) of being the first-ever Pac-10 team to go 0-12.

Pac-10 Links: QB competition for Bears, RB suddenly an issue for Beavs

December 17, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Written by Dennis Greenfield

calAccording the BearTalk Cal head coach Jeff Tedford says he’ll open up the starting QB competition for the upcoming Emerald Bowl. I’m wondering if this is Tedford’s way of pushing QB Kevin Riley if he wants to be the started for next season.

oregon-stJaquizz Rodgers didn’t get to play the last seven quarters of the regular season due to an injured shoulder. Now, it’s starting to look more than likely he won’t play the next four quarters. Quizz said on a local radio show on Tuesday that he did, in fact, break a bone (scapula) in his shoulder.

But there’s more - third string running back Jeremy Francis has left the team indefinitely to tend to his ailing mother.

oregoncalBoth Nick Reed (Oregon) and Alex Mack (Cal) have won the Morris Trophy, which is given to the top offensive and defensive lineman. The really cool thing about this trophy is that it is voted on by opposing lineman.

uscIt looks as though 75% of Trojans fans really want to see QB Mark Sanchez back for his senior season. He does have a very tough decision ahead of him to make.

Oregon makes scholarship offer to class of 2010 RB

December 11, 2008 at 11:40 am
Written by Dennis Greenfield

oregonThe Oregon Ducks have certainly been looking ahead at their future.

In the middle of recruiting for the class of 2009, Oregon took time to look ahead to the class of 2010.

According to Sporting News the Ducks made an offer to North Broward Prep (Coconut Creek, FL.) junior RB Ethan Grant. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound running threat was offered a scholarship by Oregon.

“It was a shocker, to be honest,” Grant told Sporting News Today. “There’s a guy who runs a recruiting website, and he kept telling me Oregon likes me. He made a highlight tape of me and sent it to Oregon and Oregon fell in love with it. So that’s how it went down.”

The Ducks are the only school to make an offer so far, but they probably won’t be the only school to do so. Several schools have contacted Grant including: Georgia Tech, West Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, UCLA and Boston College.

North Broward Prep ended the 2008 season with a record of 10-2 and a loss to Gulliver Prep in the Regional Semi-Finals.
