Pac-10 3-0 on day two at NCAA Tourney

Written by Dennis Greenfield
With all the three Pac-10 teams that played today going 3-0, the conference is now 5-1 in the first round.
Arizona State 66, Temple 57
Arizona State Sun Devils kept Temple at bay for their first NCAA Tournament game since 2003. Pac-10 Player of the Year James Harden only scored nine points, but his leadership was there throughout the course of the game.
Jeff Pendergraph and Derek Glasser both scored 22 points for the Sun Devils to help pick up the scoring slack left by Harden.
Arizona State will face Syracuse on Sunday. This figures to be a very good game and I wouldn’t be surprised if Arizona State wins.
Arizona 84, Utah 71
Wow! After struggling off and on during the season, and then during the Pac-10 Tournament, the Arizona Wildcats pulled off a mild upset of No. 5 seeded Utah.
Nic Wise scored 29 points—21 of them coming in the second half. Chase Budinger dropped 20 points and Jordon Hill added 17 with 13 rebounds for Arizona.
The Wildcats will square off against Wake Forest on Sunday. I see this as the end of the road for Arizona, but they’ve surprised a few thus far.
USC 72, Boston College 55
Taj Gibson earned a perfect 10! That’s right, Gibson went a perfect 10-for10 from the floor as he accumulated 24 points on the night.
Much of the game was close until 13:27 left in the second when USC started to pull away.
USC will face Michigan State on Sunday and I’ve got to tell you, if they can play as well as they did in the second half tonight, they just might pull out the upset.
